What is what proof is everclear?

Everclear is a brand of grain neutral spirits (GNS) with a very high alcohol content. The exact percentage varies by location due to regulations, but it's typically either 190 proof (95% alcohol by volume) or 151 proof (75.5% alcohol by volume). "Proof" is a measure of the alcohol content, where twice the percentage of alcohol by volume equals the proof. So 190 proof is 95% alcohol. It's essentially pure ethanol, with only trace amounts of other compounds remaining after distillation. Because of its high alcohol concentration, it's not intended for direct consumption and is often used as a base for making other alcoholic beverages or in culinary applications (though caution is strongly advised).
